Local Organizations & Individuals Recognized By Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA)
During the May Superintendent Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting for the North Central ESD, community members were recognized for their leadership across the region. Every year, the Superintendents nominate individuals and organizations for a variety of awards through the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA). Community Leadership Awards
This award is presented to community members or groups in recognition of their outstanding contributions to education. Specific criteria include benefit to students, leadership, motivation, success, cooperation/coordination with local district, recognition by others, and history of service.
Columbia Valley Community Health
Columbia Valley Community Health (CVCH) has been a strong partner for the Wenatchee School District, its students, and families. The staff at CVCH have worked to provide school-based health care to students and families in a partnership that continues to grow. From assisting with vaccinations to facilitating mental health counseling and more, CVCH staff have been ready to assist the district.
Stemilt Growers
Stemilt Growers was recognized for their outstanding partnership with Eastmont High School through Project SEARCH. This is an employment preparation program for student interns from Eastmont with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Stemilt has played an active role in providing interns with new opportunities, skills, and a positive work environment. Stemilt is paving the way as a leader within our community, inspiring and motivating other businesses and companies to see our interns for their strengths, and leading the change of the culture of employment in our community.
Student Leadership Award
This award recognizes outstanding student leaders who have created or played a significant leadership role in initiatives or programs that promote access, equity, or social justice in their school and community.
Camille Hutton, Manson School District
Camille Hutton is only a sophomore and has quite the resume. Camille’s sports include: volleyball, basketball, and track. Camille’s clubs include: FBLA, ASB, Hope Squad, and she is the acting president of Interact Club. All while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. This is great, but what sets Camille apart from others is her work ethic and her kindness. Camille has a positive attitude that is infectious, and makes people around her want to be their best. She has organized and participated in several community service projects this year alone, and is in the process of setting up an international service trip in Central America with the help of the local Rotary Club.
Additional Recognitions
In addition to the three awards, two superintendents were honored for their years of service as school administrators.
Twenty-Year Award
Monty Sabin, Superintendent of Moses Lake School District, presented with WASA’s Twenty-Year Award.
This award recognizes the individual’s years of service to education and is granted to any school administrator who has served as an administrator for 20 years in public school districts and has been a member of WASA for 10 years.
Retirement Award
Paul Turner, Superintendent of Grand Coulee School District, was presented with WASA’s Retirement Award.
This award honors the individual’s service to the profession. The person must be retiring from their administrative responsibilities and no longer eligible for active WASA membership.
