NCESD to host STEM Summit
The North Central Educational Service District (NCESD) will host the second-annual STEM Summit August 13-16 at the Wenatchee Convention Center. The event will highlight multiple professional learning opportunities for teachers and educational staff members in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics taught by experts and specialists in their fields.
Each day will begin with a keynote speaker and the summit will feature over 50 breakout sessions over the course of the four days. Clock hours are available.
Sessions have been carefully selected based on attendee feedback gained after the 2017 STEM Summit, current areas of focus in STEM education, and curriculum updates. Workshops scheduled event include:
- Using Neuroscience in the Art of Teaching
- Career Connected Learning
- Vocabulary in a Science Classroom
- Introduction to TEALS Computer Science
- Mathematical Modeling
- Kids in the Creek- connecting students with their natural environment
- The Learning Labs Model for Professional Learning
- NGSS Weather and Sky
- Number Talks
- Using Tech for Classroom Management and Engagement
- Using Google Tools
- Tying Elementary Makerspaces to Literacy
- CTE Marketing Playbook
- Using Computation Strategies Based on Reasoning
- How To Use Robots in Every Classroom
The opening lunch keynote will feature Jeff Utecht, CEO of Eduro Learning. His talk will focus on The Speed of Normalcy. “We live in a digital world, we work in a digital world and we learn in a digital world. It’s time to stop apologizing for being connected and start thinking about how the connection is affecting the way we work, play and live and learn,” he explained.
Evening social opportunities are also planned for summit attendees, to encourage professional connections and networking.
“This event is offered to provide educators throughout North Central Washington with innovative STEM educational tools and resources, curriculum updates, and information on a variety of STEM-related topics. The NCESD works hard to remain on the cutting edge of education and we’re proud to offer this popular event to our region’s educators,” explained Pete Phillips, Executive Director of Technology Services at the NCESD.
