NCESD Computer Science Overview

Computer science skills are becoming increasingly integral for jobs in all industries. The NCESD is working with teachers, schools, parents, and industry on multiple fronts to address student readiness, expand access to computer science curriculum and opportunities, and help foster interest in computer science to ensure that it becomes a core component of every child’s education.

Our goal at the NCESD is to make sure all students have opportunities to learn computer science through support for schools, teachers and communities. Our Computer Science team is ready to support school districts, schools and educators with resources, training, materials, and activities that will inspire and engage K-12 students.

Computer Science Education Week

Computer Science Education Week is the second week in December. NCESD offers support for schools/districts who would like to plan activities for Computer Science Education Week.

Microsoft TEALS

Are you looking for a supported way to learn how to teach CS at the high school level?

Microsoft TEALS (Technology Education and Literacy in Schools) creates partnerships between classroom teachers and tech industry volunteers, working together to deliver computer science education to students who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn computer science in their school.

Microsoft TEALS support is offered for two primary courses: Introduction to Computer Science and AP Computer Science. If you’re already teaching CS, but would like a connection to a technology volunteer, you can apply for that support through the program as well.

For more information visit the Microsoft TEALS website or contact Patrick O’Steen

What is SCRIPT?

SCRIPT is a nationally recognized Strategic CSforALL Resource & Implementation Planning Tool (SCRIPT) to help districts prepare a custom strategic plan for the implementation of K-12 Computer Science education.

The SCRIPT tool is a framework to guide teams of district administrators, school leaders, and educators through a series of collaborative visioning, self-assessment and goal-setting exercises to create or expand upon a computer science education implementation plan for their students.

Participating districts will leave the workshop with:

  1. A vision statement for CS in your district, a strategic plan that outlines clear, actionable, goals for 3 months, 6 months and 1 year.
  2. The CSforAll workshop sessions are grounded in best educational practices and the strategic planning process could be useful for other disciples as well.
  3. Connect with several community and industry regional partners that can support your CS education efforts.

CSforAll Commitment

Each year organizations across the nation make a commitment to advance CS education. The NCESD’s commitment for the 2021-22 Academic Year is for 500 families to code together across North Central Washington.
