The State Board of Education (SBE), Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) and the Educational Opportunity Gap Oversight and Accountability Committee (EOGOAC) staff collaborate on school recognition program annually to recognize schools for exemplary performance as measured on the Washington School Improvement Framework, as directed in statute.
There are three ways schools can be recognized through this program: Closing Gaps, Growth, or Achievement.
Closing Gaps – The school has made significant progress for all students or specific student groups in areas identified for improvement in previous school years. These areas can include ELA Assessment Scores, Math Assessment Scores, English Learner Progress, or Graduation Rates.
Growth – The school has had at least one student group that saw some of the state’s largest gains in annual performance on multiple measures. These measures include attendance, ELA Assessment Scores, Math Assessment Scores, English Learner Progress, Graduation Rates, or the percentage of ninth-grade students who earned all the credits they attempted (Ninth-Grade Readiness).
Achievement – The school is among the top 10% of schools in the state for at least two of the following areas: Attendance, Dual Credit Completion, ELA Assessment Scores, Math Assessment Scores, Graduation Rates, or the percentage of ninth-grade students who earned all the credits they attempted (Ninth-Grade Readiness).
